Have you seen a concert at Mountain Winery in Saratoga? Not only do they get a lot of wonderful shows, but there are several wonderful restaurants to dine at before the show. All wines served at Mountain Winery are made onsite and are very high quality.
David and I had tickets to see Trombone Shorty, and we wanted to know if any of the restaurants at Mountain Winery could accommodate gluten free. Since we were kid free tonight, we decided to dine at Chateau Deck, the fancier of the restaurants. To dine at this restaurant, you have to prepay for your meal when you make your reservation. The reservation list fills up quickly so it is best to make your reservation when you have tickets. The menu is a three course meal and you can choose from several options in each category. When I made my phone reservation I was assured that the restaurant could handle gluten free requests.
When we arrived at Chateau Deck, we couldn’t believe the view. We had an incredible panorama view of San Jose, Los Gatos, and surrounding cities. When the sun went down, the cities down below were lit up, making it very romantic.
When we talked to our waitperson, she assured us the kitchen could accommodate gluten free orders. Tonight was the first night of the new menu. All I can say is thank goodness we had this wonderful waitperson. She was very aware of gluten free. David and I were upset that there was only one item labeled gluten free on the menu. Our waitperson noticed right away some gluten free items were not labeled on the new menu. She was also able to tell us about substitutions to make items gluten free. We were very grateful, otherwise we would only have thought we could order one thing on the menu!
We started our first course with David ordering an Heirloom Salad and I ordered an Ahi and Shrimp appetizer.
The heirloom tomato salad was tossed in a light citrus vinaigrette dressing. The tomatoes were in season and very juicy.
I think I had the better starter 🙂 The sauce on my appetizer melded all of the flavors together beautifully. (My appetizer was modified not to include the soy glaze.)
*Our server was fabulous. Before every course she came and looked over our food to ensure it was gluten free.
For our main dishes, David surprised me by ordering the vegetarian paella.
This dish was surprisingly good.
The sauces that came with the filet were not gluten free and I opted to go without the sauces. Imagine my surprise when the chef kindly created a gluten free bearnaise sauce for me. It was really flavorful with the filet.
Another surprise from the chef!! Midway through our meal, our waitress brought us out a special, and unexpected gluten free treat. The chef wanted us to try more gluten free foods, so he created a jumbo prawn dish for us to try.
This was absolutely delicious with the drawn butter it came with. They were definitely the largest prawns I had ever seen.
There was only one gluten free option for dessert, so David and I each had the caramel mango flan with macaroons.
I am glad we each had our own, this was way too good to share :-).
Overall, I highly recommend visiting the Mountain Winery. This restaurant doesn’t prepare gluten free meals in a separate area, but they do use clean gloves/clean pots/pans/utensils when preparing your meal. They mark the order ticket so the kitchen is alerted that the order is an allergy food order.
David and I enjoyed our dinner, and Trombone Shorty, very much. We drank the Mountain Winery Cabernet, which went beautifully with my filet. (I have also tried this winery’s Zinfandel and it was very good as well.)
