Ingredient Notes:

  • Oranges – Feel free to use any type of oranges including blood orange or cara cara!
  • Honey – Any honey is a good sweetener if you want this smoothie to be sweeter. There is no need to use expensive honey for this smoothie recipe.
  • Optional Protein Powder – I like to use Orgain, Great Lakes Collagen Protein, or Garden of Life. Always check the labels to make sure the ones you choose are gluten free!
  • Milk – You can use any milk or non-dairy milk. I do not recommend canned coconut milk.

Step-By-Step Directions:

Creamsicle smoothie steps 1 and 2 photos.

Step 1: Peel and chop your oranges. Remember to remove any seeds!

Step 2: Add the orange pieces to the blender.

Creamsicle smoothie photos of steps 3 and 4.

Step 3: Add the rest of the ingredients to your blender (milk, honey, and optional protein powder), and blend on high speed until thick and creamy. To avoid getting off flavors from the protein powder, I love to use this unflavored Collagen Protein; it is flavorless and adds a nice creaminess to this smoothie recipe.

If you use a high-powered blender, such as a Vitamix or NutriBullet, you can add the honey directly with the other ingredients.

🔑 Sandi says: Depending on how powerful your blender is, many find it easier to whip the honey into the milk before adding it to the blender. The honey can stick to the sides of your blender and not mix into the smoothie well.

Step 4: Add some ice cubes. Put the lid on and blend for 45 seconds until fully blended.

Ingredients

  • 4 small oranges peeled
  • 1 cup non-dairy milk * see note
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons honey * see note
  • ice

Instructions

  • Add the oranges, vanilla, honey, and almond milk to the blender. Add optional protein powder.
  • Depending on how powerful your blender is, many find it easier to whip the honey into the milk before adding it to the blender. The honey can stick to the sides of your blender and not mix into the smoothie well.
  • Snap the lid on and blend for 30-45 seconds.
  • Add ice and blend on crush setting.
  • Enjoy cold!

Notes

  1. I used almond milk but other dairy-free kinds of milk will work but I do not recommend canned coconut milk. You can also use regular milk if you are not dairy-free.
  2. Optional: Add in protein powder. I like to use Orgain, Great Lakes (collagen protein), or Garden of Life brands. Always check the label to ensure your protein powder is gluten free!

SPECIAL NOTE

Please know that every gluten free flour blend has a different starch to grain ratio. If you use a blend I didn’t test, you may need to adjust your moisture levels in your baked goods.

      1. You can use any amount of honey you like I use about a cup of ice. It really depends how thick and frozen you like it. You can use more ice if you like it very frozen.
