I bet you never thought a place called Liquid Bread Gastro Pub would be able to adapt recipes for gluten free dining!
Liquid Bread is located in quaint downtown Campbell, CA. This restaurant is hugely popular and if you don’t make a reservation, there is a very good chance you will not get a table. We booked on Open Table. We were too late to reserve an outside patio seat, so we dined inside the restaurant.
I will be honest, when my friends suggested meeting at a restaurant with bread in its name, I was skeptical.
I called and asked about how they handle gluten free orders. They have a tiny kitchen, so nothing can be prepared in a separate area. This is common in the Bay Area. The restaurant did have a good idea of what precautions to take and they were willing to adapt recipes. The fryer is shared, so don’t order anything fried here.
For starters, this is a pub with probably 100’s of exotic beers. If you can get past not being able to try most, there are a two beer options, although in my opinion Omission is NOT gluten free and it makes me really sick. (I told the restaurant this, but I doubt they will change their menu.) There are also several great cider options if you are gluten free.
I opted for the St. Peter’s gluten free beer. It was my first time trying this brand and I really liked it.
For an appetizer, we ordered the roasted shishito peppers with garlic and enoki. This comes in a bowl and is a little awkward to share. The flavors were wonderful.
Next, I decided to try the kale salad. I am almost sad to say it but this salad was awful! I ended up sending it back. I love kale salads but the flavors in this salad were not well thought out.
My husband’s melon and prosciutto was a lot better!
For my main dish, I chose a paprika shrimp dish. The shrimp were really flavorful and cooked perfectly.
The yellow tail dish my husband ordered was good, but not as good as mine :-).
There were no gluten free dessert options, so there is nothing to say. If you can eat gluten, our friends’ desserts looked pretty incredible.
Neither my husband or I got sick, so the kitchen seems to have handled our requests.
Have you tried this restaurant?
