A single brown grilled fig stuffed with brie.

I saw a photo on Pinterest last week of a grilled watermelon slice, which caught my eye. At first, I couldn’t understand the concept of cooking watermelon or any fruit on the grill. Questions raced through my mind…did the heat destroy or add to the flavor of the watermelon? Did the char marks change the taste of the watermelon? How would Brie stand up to the grilled fruit sweetness?

These figs make an incredible appetizer for any occasion! If you love appetizers as much as we do, you will want to check out all of my gluten free appetizer recipes!

Figs come in many different colors and varieties. My personal favorite variety is the Candy Stripes, but they are difficult to find. They are neon green with a darker green stripe and taste like candy! I used mission figs in this recipe because they are easy to find in the summer. Here are more delicious grilled fruit recipes to try!

I had a box of brown figs sitting on the counter that were about to spoil, making these the perfect fruit for us to experiment with. This recipe will work with any variety of figs. There is something magical about brie and figs. The gooey brie cheese flavors mesh with the sweetness of the figs and honey! Figs are also delicious in this fig chutney recipe.

This stuffed fig appetizer is gluten-free, soy-free, egg-free, and nut-free.

Ingredient Notes:

This simple fig recipe requires only four ingredients: fresh figs, brie, olive oil, and honey.

Step-By-Step Directions:

Figs on skewers cooking on a grill.

Step 1: If you are using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before using them to grill, so they don’t burn in the fire. If you are using a metal skewer, skip the soaking step.

Step 2: Wash the figs and cut off the stems. Push the figs through a skewer. Leave a little space between each fig.

Step 3: Lightly brush the figs with organic cold-pressed olive oil to prevent burning.

Step 4: Grill the figs with the grill lid open slowly so they won’t burst.

Step 5: When the figs look like they have softened, remove them from the grill.

Step 6: Carefully make two deep cuts from the top down in a “+” pattern. Insert a small chunk of brie into the center of each fig. The heat from the figs helped soften the brie even more, melding the flavor into the figs.

Step 7: Drizzle honey over the top of the figs. Serve warm.

These figs would be a perfect appetizer if you need a fancy dish for a party. If grilling figs seems too “weird” to you, you can drizzle honey over raw figs! If you love figs, try this yummy Fig Jam recipe.
