I don’t know about you, but my family loves comfort food. It is warm, filling, and just makes me feel good. I am sure this is where the phrase “yummy in my tummy” came from. That is how I feel when I make this gluten free meat stew.

It’s funny to see that this recipe was called meat stew. I did a quick search on Google and it doesn’t even pull meat stew. Times have changed and now we call this beef stew.
I was really lucky that I only had to make a two easy modifications to this family recipe to make it gluten free. So many recipes become hard work when I try to figure out how to modify ingredients to make the gluten free work.
The biggest change I made to this recipe was to omit the flour coating on the meat. Second, I took the lazy route. I did not brown the meat beforehand. :-). I know it makes the meat prettier to brown it first, but I am a mom on the go and I found over the years that skipping this step really doesn’t affect the flavor in this recipe.
How to make a slow cooker beef roast stew.
Put all of the ingredients into a slow cooker. Cook on low heat for 6-7 hours.

Things You Need To Make This Meat Stew Recipe:
- Slow cooker. This is my most favorite kitchen toy. I can toss all of the ingredients in and come home to dinner.
- This food chopper will cut your prep time in half.
- 1 1/2 pounds stew meat
- 1 pound mini potatoes
- 1 turnip, chopped
- 4 large carrots, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cups beef broth, (*I used this instead of water.)
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 bay leaf, (*I added this)
- Add all of the ingredients to a slow cooker.
- Turn up the heat to low and put the lid on the cooker.
- Come back in 6 hours and have a great dinner.
