Summer is here and these red, white and blue watermelon skewers make a delicious appetizer. Serve these up as a snack, or at your next pool-side party.
I am so glad summer is here. Doesn’t everything seem so much more relaxed?
We are having friends over to swim today and I can’t wait to share these Gloria Ferrer sparkling wines with them. When the weather is hot, nothing is better for entertaining than cool sparkling wine.
Did you know that Gloria Ferrer was the first sparkling wine house in Sonoma Carneros? They were also the first to bring back clones from France to plant their vineyard. It is this attention to detail that has helped Gloria Ferrer wines earn over 500 gold medals and 50 90+ scores in the last 5 years.
This will be the perfect sparkling wine to serve our friends!
I have written about Gloria Ferrer’s wines and paired recipes for them in the past. Who can forget these Gluten Free Lemon Tarts? The tart pairs so well with Gloria Ferrer’s sparkling wine.
Now I get to share NV Brut Rosé with you. It is their newest sparkling wine. You may also love their NV Blanc de Blanc. Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards is Carneros’ original sparkling wine house, owned and founded by the Ferrer family of Spain. Named for José Ferrer’s wife, Gloria, the winery opened in 1986 in the breezy, now-famous region in southernmost Sonoma County. Grab a bottle and let me know what you think?
For my pairing, I decided to make an appetizer that is perfect for a lazy day at the pool. These red, white and blue skewers are great because you can hold one without having to put your glass down :-). Fresh juicy watermelon, fresh mozzarella cheese, and blueberries taste so good together. Drizzle on a balsamic honey sauce to make them even better.
This appetizer is so easy to make. Grab a star shaped cookie cutter and you are ready!
Cut out a lot of stars because your guests will want to eat a lot of these :-).
How to make watermelon and mozzarella fruit skewers:
Easy watermelon, mozzarella cheese and blueberry skewers with a balsamic honey sauce
- 1 watermelon seedless
- 1 pound mozzarella
- 1 cup blueberries
- 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
Slice watermelon and use a star shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes in the watermelon.
To assemble the skewers: add blueberries first. Next is the mozzarella. Last, stick the toothpick into the watermelon star.
Mix the balsamic vinegar and honey in a small bowl.
Once the tray is full, drizzle the balsamic sauce over the skewers.
Check out this Gloria Ferrer post that I paired an Acorn Squash Risotto with their chardonnay.
