Moist Gluten Free Ground Chicken Burgers

You will love these easy moist ground chicken burgers topped with caramelized onion and hatch chiles.

  • 1 pound ground chicken * see note
  • ¼ cup gluten free bread crumbs * see note
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 2 teaspoons chives
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 2 tablespoons fire-roasted hatch chiles or green chiles
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil


  • Add avocado oil to a skillet and heat on medium heat.
  • Put the sliced onion in the skillet and turn heat down to medium-low. Cook the onion for 10-15 minutes on low heat until the onions brown and caramelize.
  • Add the hatch chiles and cook 3 more minutes.
  • In a bowl, add the chicken burger ingredients. Mix well.
  • Form into patties and grill for 10 minutes until the ground chicken burgers have an internal temperature of 165º F.
  • Remove from the grill and top with the caramelized onions and hatch chiles.


  1. If you don't have ground chicken, you can substitute ground turkey, beef, or pork.
  2. Hatch chiles can be spicy so make sure to go lightly if you don't want a lot of spice.
Many ask if panko and bread crumbs are gluten free?
Unfortunately, panko is not gluten free. The good news is there are a few companies that make gluten free panko like Ians and Schar. You can also make your own homemade gluten free bread crumbs and panko!
