What Are Chocolate Chips?

Chocolate chips are little morsels of sweetened chocolate commonly used in baked goods and no-bake dessert recipes. They come in many flavors, but the most common are milk chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, dark chocolate, and milk chocolate.

To make chocolate chips, cocoa butter is added to the chocolate. This is important so the chips retain their shape as much as possible when they are baked. As a result, chocolate chips are also easy to melt. When baking with chocolate chips, you can add them straight into whatever you are baking.

Answer: Are Chocolate Chips Gluten Free?

While most chocolate chips don’t have any gluten-containing ingredients, you need to ensure the chips you buy are gluten free if you have gluten sensitivity or celiac disease.

If you can’t take chances, you should choose one that is labeled as a gluten-free chocolate chip. Some brands are made in facilities that make other products containing gluten, so cross-contamination threatens to loom over every bag.

    1. Hi Marion, That is a good question. I haven’t tried it without flaxseed, but I think it is fine to omit since I don’t include flaxseed when using the premade gluten free flour blend, Cup4Cup.
