What Is Coconut Sugar?

Coconut sugar, also known as palm sugar, is an unrefined sugar made from the nectar of coconut palm tree blossoms. It is sweet and has a similar flavor to brown sugar. Coconut sugar has a slightly different texture compared to brown sugar.

Coconut sugar is low glycemic and is used in place of sugar in paleo baking. It is considered a healthier alternative to refined sugar. It performs in recipes in a similar way to brown sugar.

If you have to avoid refined sugar, coconut sugar is a great option for many. If you have celiac disease or are gluten intolerant, you need to be extra careful when it comes to safe baking ingredients.

Check out all the baking ingredients I have researched to know which are gluten-free!

Answer: Is Coconut Sugar Gluten Free?

In its natural form, coconut sugar is considered gluten free. This natural sweetener is only made with palm tree blossoms, which do not have any gluten ingredients.

If you have celiac or gluten intolerance, you must scrutinize every food product you buy to ensure it is safe and gluten free. If it isn't, it can make you sick.

Note that some coconut sugar is not gluten free because it is processed in facilities that are not gluten free. Bob's Red Mill Coconut Sugar is not gluten free because it is not made in a gluten free facility.

Always read the ingredients label to make sure the coconut sugar you want to buy is gluten free. If it is manufactured on shared equipment, it should state this on the label.
