What Is Kix?
Kix is a corn puff breakfast cereal made by General Mills since 1937. It comes in several varieties, including berry and honey flavors. General Mills is one of the larger makers of breakfast cereal.
Kix markets itself as a healthier breakfast for children because it has only 4 grams of sugar. This is definitely low for a kids’ cereal. I think reduced sugar is really good, but they have a large sign on the ingredients label stating they use bioengineered ingredients. General Mills doesn’t list those bioengineered ingredients, but I suspect the main ingredient used, corn, is bioengineered.

Answer: Is Kix Gluten Free?
Is Kix gluten free? “Maybe” is the best answer I can give you. Technically, Kix is not considered gluten free because the manufacturer does not test this cereal for gluten. I searched high and low on General Mills and the Kix websites to see if they tested this cereal.
Kix falls under that grey area of having no gluten ingredients, similar to Crispix Cereal I investigated. There is no wheat or barley, two common ingredients used in cereal. No information is available if Kix is made on shared equipment with other wheat cereals. There is no information on whether Kix is made in a facility that produces wheat and gluten-containing products on the General Mills or Kix sites.
I can not tell you what to do. You will need to determine what level of risk you are willing to take to eat this cereal. If you have Celiac Disease, I would recommend skipping this cereal. It is your decision if you are gluten-free due to intolerance or gluten sensitivity.

Kix is no longer gluten free. A wheat warning label was just added to the front of the box. Too badโฆ I havenโt been able to find a suitable alternative for nuts & bolts.
That is a bummer. I will have to look at the box when I go to the grocery store this week. The company’s website doesn’t have the warning for me to verify.
Kix now has a wheat warning on the box, so should not be considered gluten free. Too bad, it was a great cereal, with little sugar. Havenโt been able to find a good alternative for making nuts & bolts.
