I have been posting quite a few of my daughter’s decorated gluten free desserts on the blog, and today, we wanted to do something different.

Making frosting flower petals.

You can use any frosting you like or the fun pink lemonade buttercream I mentioned above!! Any frosting works in piping flowers.

We want to teach you how to make the buttercream flowers in the Gluten Free Pink Lemonade Cupcakes recipe on my blog.

Tools you need to pipe flowers:

For the frosting, you will need a combination of powdered sugar, butter, vanilla, and water or cream

The first thing you will need to make this frosting flower design is this Wilton decorating tip. If you don’t have frosting bags, you will need those, too.

Steps to make frosting flowers:

  • The first step is to take your frosting bag and insert the tip.
  • Use scissors to snip the end of the frosting bag off.
  • Fill your frosting bag and twist the end to squeeze the frosting towards the tip.
  • Grab a cupcake and use the frosting tip to draw large “U” shapes circling all along the outer edge of the cupcake.
  • Once you complete a ring of “U”  shapes around the outer edge, repeat this process starting from the middle of the cupcake.
  • You want the “U” shapes to overlap a bit over the beginning of the “U” in the outer ring, as flower petals do.
  • Repeat this process one last time from the center of the cupcake.
  • Dot frosting in the middle to finish the flower. You can also use an M&M  or candy for the center of the flower.

You can see this process more in the video.
