Roasted chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans) make a crunchy, delicious snack that can’t be beaten! My kids thought I was nuts when I decided to make a healthier snack. I told them this air-fried snack would be so much better than oily chips.

They were skeptical until they tried some of the fun flavors. So far, the winner seems to be ranch with the kids.

What air fryer is best for crispy chickpeas?

To be honest, any air fryer is great for making tasty air-fried gluten free foods. I have two air fryers, the Corsori 3.4 qt, and the Ninja Air Fryer 8 qt. They both work really well. I will be testing the Sur de Table air fryer in the next couple of weeks.

Recipe step-by-step directions:

I used canned garbanzo beans. If you are also using canned garbanzo beans, put them in a colander. Rinse them well. Dry them with a paper towel!

If you want to use cooked garbanzo beans, here is a great tutorial on how to cook garbanzo beans.

Step 1: Add your dried chickpeas to a bowl. Add the oil, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat.

HINT: Be sure to really dry your chickpeas!! This is a must or your chickpeas will not get super crispy. To dry them, rinse them in a colander. Use a paper towel to really dry them.

Step 2: Preheat the air fryer to 390º F for 4-5 minutes. Place the garbanzo beans into your air fryer.

Be sure they are not piled too high. If you make more than one can at a time, they won’t cook thoroughly, so it is best to air fry them in two batches unless you use a very large air fryer.

Note: I do not recommend flavor seasoning on the garbanzo beans before air frying them. Many spices can get bitter and rancid from high heat.

Step 3: Air fry the chickpeas for 15-18 minutes. The longer you air fry them, the crispier they will turn out. At the 8-minute mark, open the air fryer quickly and stir the chickpeas so they cook evenly on all sides.

Step 4: Pour the air-fried chickpeas into a large bowl and quickly add your seasonings. Toss to coat. Enjoy!
