My kids eat seafood once a week, and one of their favorite ways to enjoy it is with my easy gluten free alfredo sauce. I have tried several different types of sauce for cod, but Alfredo seems to be their favorite! Cod is such a mild-flavored whitefish, and kids like it better than most varieties of seafood!

This recipe features my homemade alfredo sauce recipe. This is a delicious cream sauce for fish! You can also slather this alfredo over pasta or enjoy it over this whole roasted cauliflower.

It is the most kid-friendly, easy sauce for cod you will ever make. It is even ready in just minutes.

A serving of cod alfredo on a red plastic kid's plate.

If your family is like mine, school nights are so busy it is hard to find time to share a nutritious family dinner. Family dinners are such an important meal.

Why This Recipe is Great:

  1. You get a delicious dinner in under 30 minutes!! You read that correctly. This cod alfredo is so quick to make. You only need a few simple ingredients.
  2. Your whole family will love it, even the kids!! Most of the time it takes to cook is waiting for your pasta water to boil.
  3. The creamy Alfredo sauce is full of parmesan and garlic flavor.

If you are a seafood lover like me, you will want to check out these amazing gluten free seafood recipes, too!

Allergen Information:

This recipe is gluten-free, egg-free, soy-free, and nut-free.

Ingredient Notes:

Photos of the fish alfredo recipe ingredients.
  • Cod - Use fresh or previously frozen and thawed cod. I love using cod because it is a mild, kid-friendly fish. You can use any fish or shellfish in this recipe, so choose what you like.
  • Heavy Cream - This is a staple of alfredo sauces. Please don't use half and half.
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • Garlic - Use fresh or jarred minced garlic. In a pinch, you can use garlic powder.
  • Gluten Free Pasta - I used Jovial Taggeline because it is like fettuccine noodles, but you can use any gluten free pasta shape.
  • Butter - Use salted or unsalted butter. If you use salted butter, omit additional salt.
  • Basil - Fresh basil is best, but dried works as well.
Two packages of cod from Trader Joes.

Tips For Sucess:

  • Use paper towels to pat dry the cod before cooking it.
  • If your cod is frozen, thaw it out completely before cooking it.

How To Make This Cod Pasta Recipe:

Thaw your cod if it was previously frozen. Pat it dry with paper towels. Set a pot of water to boil for the gluten free pasta.

Filets of cod with fresh basil cooking in a skillet.

Step 1: Saute the cod with olive oil and fresh basil in a skillet over medium heat. Cod cooks pretty quickly, so you would only need to sauté for about 7-10 minutes, depending on how thick the fish is.

Heavy cream, salt, pepper, and butter in a skillet.

Step 2: Heat the heavy cream, butter, salt, and pepper in a large skillet over medium-low heat. When bubbles form, turn the heat down to low to simmer.

Cooked cod, flaked in a skillet.

Step 3: Once the cod is cooked, drain the cooking juices and chop it into large pieces. Double-check for bones when you shred the fish.

Step 4: Cook your pasta according to package directions. Every brand has different cooking times, so do read the box cooking suggestions. I share a lot more tips to get al dente gluten free pasta.

If you like these thick pasta noodles, use Jovial brown rice tagliatelle. Add the cooked pasta and cod to the creamy alfredo sauce.

Toss the pasta and fish with the Alfredo sauce to coat all of the pasta. Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese on top. Serve hot! If you want another delicious cod recipe, try this easy Air Fryer Cod.

Gluten Free Bread For Dipping:

Dip one of these delicious gluten free bread or rolls into the Alfredo sauce!

  • Gluten Free Breadsticks - Crispy and perfect for dipping.
  • Easy Gluten Free Garlic Knots - These have delicious buttery garlic flavors.
  • Gluten Free Focaccia Bread - Baked with fresh Italian herbs.

Recipe FAQ:

Can you make alfredo dairy-free?

It is possible to make this recipe dairy-free now that So Delicious makes a dairy-free heavy cream. If you want to try using non-dairy milk, vegan butter, and dairy-free parmesan cheese (VioLife makes a great vegan parmesan cheese), try it and let me know how it turns out.

Is fettuccine alfredo healthy?

I have to admit, this isn't the healthiest meal. Adding healthy seafood definitely adds to the protein and nutrient content! I wish heavy cream had no calories!!

How do you keep gluten free pasta from getting mushy?

If you hate mushy gluten free pasta, check out my tips on how to cook gluten free pasta so it turns out al dente.

Can you use a different type of seafood?

You can use any seafood for this recipe. I like cod because it breaks up into chunks easily, but you can also use shrimp, scallops, salmon, or any seafood you like!

Storage:

Store leftovers in an airtight container in your refrigerator. This fish Alfredo will keep fresh for up to 3 days. You can freeze this as well, but the pasta will thaw out with a different texture.

If you love seafood as much as we do, you must give this thick and creamy gluten free Oyster Chowder and this easy Grilled Bacon-Wrapped Tilapia recipe a try, too!

Sides To Serve With Cod:

If you are wondering what to serve with this seafood alfredo, how about one of these easy gluten free side dish recipes?

  • Grandma's Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Bacon. Even the kids will eat these Brussels sprouts!
  • This Kale and Apple Salad is wildly popular on my blog.
  • Roasted Fava Beans are also delicious with cod.

Notes

  1. You can use gluten free dry pasta or fresh pasta for this recipe. I love Trader Joe's fresh gluten free pasta in their refrigerated section. Whatever gluten free pasta you choose to make, it is important to follow the cooking directions on the box. Every brand has different cook times.
  2. My kids love this recipe with cod, but you can use any mild seafood or shellfish like shrimp in this recipe. Make sure if you use fish to check for bones!
  3. I recommend heavy cream, which is a staple in alfredo sauce. I do not recommend using half and half.
  4. You can use fresh or jarred minced garlic. In a pinch, you can also use garlic powder.
  5. This recipe will keep fresh up to 3 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

SPECIAL NOTE

Please know that every gluten free flour blend has a different starch to grain ratio. If you use a blend I didn't test, you may need to adjust your moisture levels in your baked goods.

I was looking for a recipe using cod in a Fettuccine Alfredo dish. This was just about perfect. I used half & half instead of heavy cream to lighten it up a bit. I also doubled the garlic and parmesan to kick it up a notch and squeezed in the juice of half a lemon and gave it a toss just before serving. Thanks!

I am not sure why I am afraid to attempt making fish. I guess I haven't bought it enough to feel comfortable. But I love fettucini, so I am sure it will be a delicious recipe.
