Breakfast on Mother’s Day is always a big celebration at our house. Every year, my kids like to make me breakfast in bed. When my kids were younger, they loved cooking with Dad in the kitchen. If you’re celebrating a gluten-free mom this year, here are some of my favorite recipes that are easy, kid-friendly, and full of love.
Need more inspiration? You can see ALL of my Gluten-Free Breakfast Recipes on the blog. Let me know what you make! My Gluten Free Pantry Guide for advice on the equipment needed for gluten free cooking and baking.
What breakfasts are gluten free?
Gluten-free breakfasts go beyond eggs! With the right ingredients, muffins, scones, pancakes, baked oatmeal, and granola are all naturally gluten-free. Many of my recipes are freezer-friendly, too, so you can make extra to save time during busy mornings.
If you want to make a family project for mom, why not plant some kitchen herbs that grow in the kitchen window? She can use the herbs in her daily cooking and baking.
What flour is best for gluten-free baking?
There are so many gluten-free flour blends, and each performs differently, depending on their starch-to-grain ratio. Some of my favorites are:
- King Arthur Measure for Measure
- Bob’s Red Mill 1:1
- Namaste GF Blend
- Authentic Foods Steve’s GF Bread Blend
Not all blends work well in certain recipes, so I write about my favorite gluten free flour blends and which recipes work best in each type of gluten-free recipe.
If you can’t have xanthan or guar gum, or prefer a different flour blend, I have several great DIY flour blend recipes:
- DIY Gluten Free Flour Blend – This is a great all-purpose blend that works in regular and yeast recipes. It uses psyllium husk powder and is gum-free.
- Gluten-Free Pastry and Cake Flour Blend – This recipe helps you make the fluffiest gluten-free cakes, muffins, and flakiest pastries.
- Gluten-Free Whole Grain Flour – This is a great blend if you want a more wholesome flour!

What gluten-free food can I make for breakfast besides eggs?
Besides the typical eggs, you can enjoy granola and baked oatmeal (use certified gluten free oats!), muffins and scones, and sweet bread like this Gluten Free Zucchini Bread. Chia pudding is also popular, and it can be made easily before bedtime, so it is ready when you wake up.
Tips for Cooking with Kids:
Kids love to help, and teaching them how to cook and bake is fun! They can learn how to measure, read ingredients, what happens when ingredients combine (math, reading, science!) and more. Here are even more gluten-free recipes to make with kids.
- Pre-measure ingredients to keep it simple.
- Let younger kids stir, decorate, or set the table.
- Make clean-up part of the fun (use aprons, play music!)
